Books

The Kite Runner presented an insightful meaning of loyalty and betrayal between friendship to me. I thought the book is well written and it gives an emotional impact. The characters in the book is very easy to relate to because all of us have been through tough times of friend ship.

I felt an intimate connection to The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston because the novel is about a Chinese-American girl trying to find her identity. The novel is written with an aspect of supernatural and reality tied together. I can relate to the protagonist in ways of searching for an identity myself.

Another novel that I quite enjoyed is GOTH by Otsu-ichi. It is a Japanese physiological horror novel that I thought really gave me different perspectives on life. I love reading about the dark sides of human and this novel defined obsession in a way that was different that what I expect it was.

Media Impact

In this time of era, social networking has been a major medium for us to connect to new and old friends. Myspace and Facebook became major online sources that people use to connect with other people via internet. Either its just connecting with family members or current acquaintances, it is very easy to find friends on these networks, even old time sweet hearts.

In 2009, Facebook was one of the many reasons for higher divorce rates. Old relationship rekindle because it is used as a social medium to catch up with old relationships. It allowed affairs to arise. Although it can be unintentional at first, but some people in current relationships forget the reasons why the communicate with old relationships. The reasons why Facebook is a cause for such divorce is assessed by this video.

Facebook can also be used as evidence in divorce courts.

I do not think that Facebook can be a main reason for divorce.I believe that marriage and relationship go into jeopardy because there are certain strains before the divorce. Facebook is just another social tool that catalyst the process of breaking relationships. I dont think Facebook should solely be a blame for divorce. Facebook is though another portal that increases chances for divorce rates.

week 1: Media Autobiography

Living in the 21st century, it is inevitable to not be exposed to the mass media. With modern technology, humans are able to interact with each other not only by word of mouth communication. We have expanded ours ways to connect and reach out to each other.

Books have been our medium to learn new knowledge and also teach others about our own individual knowledge. It is also a way for us to create fictional master pieces that people can enjoy. As a student, books have always circumference around my daily studies. Although I gain most of my academic knowledge from books, I dislike the fact that there are certain limits in which books can actually connect to its readers. I do enjoy the fact that books can be used as a portal for us to escape from reality for a few hours or so.

I do not read a lot of newspapers. I would read the head line news or skim through certain articles that interest me. I find that it is much easier and faster to research news on the internet than getting my hands on a news paper. I do like that news papers are still used even in today’s computer and fast internet era. It keeps a sense of how our society has kept its traditions. Something I dislike about it is that I find it less convenient for myself to go find a news paper if I am not subscribe to one.

The magazines that I usually read are fashion magazines. I believe that fashion is such a big part of my life and I love looking at new designs and aspiring fashion designers that make their debut on the runways. Something I do dislike about these fashion magazines is that it is targeted towards an upper class society and does not take into an account that not all of their readers are upper class.

I often enjoy watching movies and old films. What I like about them is that some of them are very inspirational but on the down sides there are certain stereotypes that are often casted in these movies. These stereotypes lead up to racial formation.

Recording that I use is the music in my I-pod or I phone. I use this device very often. So often I feel as though I cannot be apart from it. To have my recorded music is convenient and easy, but something I dislike about it is that I cannot record all of my files on a small device.

I listen to the radio every day while driving to school or work. It makes the car ride more enjoyable. What I like about the radio is that it can give its listener updates on traffic or give us information about world news. Something I dislike about it is that some of its broadcasters are bias.

I do not watch as much television as I use to when I was younger. Now that there is internet and computers, I can watch whatever I like and not have to worry if I miss a favorite show. What I dislike about television is that there is no access to it when you are on the go.

I use the internet almost 24/7. It has become such a habit that keeps in indoors. The internet allows us to have so many accesses to many things. With a few key strokes and click we can pull up thousand s of information. What I dislike about the internet is that we are now very heavily dependent on it that we were before.
I believe that internet and books have impacted majorly on my life style. I have had access to these two media resources since I was a child and have grown to not being able to live a day without these two media.
